Earth Hour 2012 is taking place today from 8:30pm to 9:30pm all around the world. People are turning out their lights for the hour as a way to bring awareness to environmental conservation and climate change. At 8:30pm in each different time zone, millions of people are saving electricity, lighting candles and thinking about taking action to save nature.
The World Wildlife Fund (WWF) organizes Earth Hour every year. It is an excellent and popular environmental initiative. It’s encouraging to realize that millions of people around the globe care about saving nature and animals. People committed to participating in Earth Hour and making plans to help to save the environment, like recycling, composting, using less electricity and growing their own vegetables. Famous landmarks committed to turn out their lights for the hour.
Environmental education is a passion of mine. I love teaching children about simple ways to save the Earth. I love the book “The Lorax” by Dr. Seuss. It is a cautionary tale about what would happen if people cut down all of the trees and failed to protect the environment. I haven’t yet seen the new movie adaption, but I’d like to see it.
May we all speak for the trees and the animals.
